A Man's Birthday Dinner

My husband's birthday is this weekend and while I still haven't really figured out what to get him, I have figured out his birthday dinner! Which is the important part, really. Right?

Please say yes. It'll keep me from feeling like a bad wife. :)

Anyhow, food. Dinner. Yum.

Khale has a few favorite things, one of which is meat. And one of his favorite meat-atarian dinners is:

Corned Beef Brisket with Boiled Cabbage and Mashed Potatoes (with gravy, I forgot the gravy in the photo below).


It's probably the least visually appealing meal that I make but it is darn fantastic. Khale asks for it to be his birthday dinner every year...or his birthday lunch if we're going out for dinner.

But what about the birthday dessert?

My husband doesn't like cake. Except his mother's molasses cake which is heavenly. I did make him chocolate cake for his first birthday as my husband and then proceeded to eat 11/12 of it over the next few days. Because I was pregnant. Because somebody needed to eat it. Because cake goes bad.  

And then more recently I've made him Baklava for his birthday dessert. And those years he got to eat 11/12 of it because I don't appreciate that much honey.

This year, when asked out of all the desserts in the world what he wants for his birthday dessert, he picked one of my random spur of the moment creations:




His choice shouldn't have surprised me because whenever we have people over or I get in a baking mood but don't know what to make, Khale's face lights up as he grins and says "How about that salted caramel pie?"

It's my favorite too. I kinda feel like I'm cheating - making one of my favorite desserts on his birthday.

Sheesh. And that's coming from someone who hasn't bothered to get her husband a gift yet either. So selfish.
